Having old tyres piling in the corner of the garage or in the back yard? According to the most recent stats, one tyre per person per year is the average amount discarded. Naturally you can always give your local rubbish removal company come to collect them for recycling, but there are so many things that you can reuse old tyres for that it would be a shame not to explore your options first, before you dive into the whole recycling business.
Here are a couple of ideas:
- The most classical solution to putting old tyres in good use is to make a rocker out of them for your kids. It’s easy, it’s fun and it’s good both for your little ones and the environment. What’s more there to hope for?
- Hang them on the exterior wall of the tools shack in the back yard, and you will have practical and functional raised flower beds which are perfect for growing vegetables both singly or stacked on top of each other.
- Or you can simply use them as flower pots. Make your garden more lively and colorful by painting every single tyre in a different color.
- If you show a little imagination and invest some time and energy into the project, you can actually turn old tyres into everything you want and need. There are people out there who even make coffee tables out of the vulcanized rubbed of the tyres. There is even this thing when people make an entire set of patio furniture entirely from reused tyres. It looks better than you might think.
- Make baskets out of the old tyres that would be both good looking and practical. You can use them as fruit baskets or for storing magazines, newspapers and other items that stack up in every home.
- Old tyres are often used on basketball courts. If your kids – or yourself – like playing basketball, you can make a basket out of an old tyre and hang it over the garage door. It is a pretty traditional move, but also one that has proven to be pretty efficient and practical.
- Another frequent area in which old tyres are reused is in shoemaking.
- On an industrial level, old tyres are used for building artificial reefs, for production of fuel, production of Tyre Derived Aggregate which has many applications in civil engineering, and many more.
All that we have mentioned above are just general ideas. The important thing that you should remember is that just tossing or even worse – burning your old tyres – is not something that you should even consider doing. First and foremost because it has disastrous effects on the environment. In our age and time we cannot afford to be irresponsible towards nature. The other thing is that old tyres can easily be put in a very good use and make your life not only more pleasant, but also easier and more practical – that’s something everyone should strive for.
