Parenting is hard. There are so many things that you should look after and the biggest problem is that there is not a unified formula that you can study in order to be successful as a parent. Fortunately there are several things that you can make sure that you teach your children in order to make sure that they are healthy and successful in life. Those include:
- Hand-washing is one of the most important things that you should teach your kids. It is even more important than telling them about home cleaning and sanitation (not that we are saying it is not important). It should be done for at least 20 seconds with warm water and lots of soap.
- Do not skip breakfast. Many kids prefer to sleep for twenty more minutes before schools instead of eating breakfast. But what they say about eating in the morning – that it is the most important meal of the day – is more than true. You will have to teach your little ones how important it is to eat breakfast. It may require some planning and organizing the grocery shopping budget, but we can assure you it is well worth the effort.
- Sneezing in their sleeves – it is a healthy and very important habit because it prevents the spread of diseases. It may contradict what we were taught about as kids ourselves, but sneezing in one’s sleeve is much more efficient in preventing the spread of germs and mucus than sneezing in one’s hand.
- No soda for lunch or dinner. Soda might be rather efficient when it comes to making some DIY cleaning products, but when it comes to the younger’s stomach and its proper development, it should be avoided at all costs. It is not only about the high amounts of sugar that carbonated drinks usually contain, but there are also so many other compounds that you should be worried about. The best course of action would be to change the soda in your kids’ (and yours as well) with water.
- We all know that exercising is something that is good for you. Adults do train as something like a chore – because they have to. As you may already very well know, kids do not grasp the concept of a chore quite well. Make them move and play outside and that would be enough. It would be good for their health and will create some useful habits for the future as well.
- In the high-tech era we are all living it, it is more important than ever to make a habit out of cutting screen time at least an hour before going to bed. Our parents had to worry about just TV, but now there are computer screens, smart phones and tablets as well. Ban the use of such devices before bed to improve sleeping habits. It might be a good idea to implement that rule for yourself as well. You are going to notice the positive results very soon.
