What we usually associate summer with are the much-awaited-for vocation days, end of school and more relaxed atmosphere at the office at least. If you are a homeowner, however, summer presents you with a great opportunity to tackle a number of very nice outdoor home improvement projects that would otherwise be impossible to handle when the weather becomes bad again.
So, roll up your sleeves and get down to work.
1) The first summer home improvement project that you can get your hands on is, of course, cleaning up the pool. More and more people nowadays have pools in their backyards, especially those living in the suburbs. Pools are no longer a luxury few people can afford, so if you have installed one yourself, you should enjoy it. However, you should also maintain it properly in order for it to be safe for swimming and all the other activities that inevitably will take place in it during the hot days of summer.
2) The other thing that you should think about is landscaping. You love your garden and you will love it even more if it is properly taken care of. You can do a perfectly fine job mulching the beds, shrub pruning and weeding – those are the tasks that you can totally manage on your own. If you have some larger project on your mind, one that is going to require tools, skills and time, it might be a good idea to call professionals. A little tip – most rubbish removal companies have excellent landscaping and garden maintenance services, which are usually less expensive than those of contractors doing only gardening, so you might check out who the rubbish removal companies operating in your area are.
3) While you are still in the garden, you should think about pest control. Summer is a great time to be alive, but that applies not only to people but to all types of creatures like termites, ants, spiders, cockroaches, beetles, biting and stinging insects, rodents etc. There are a lot of options for DIY pest control solutions out there, but the truth is that if you want optimal results, it is better to give the pros a call. That’s the safest way to proceed for sure.
4) A thing that you can do on your own – with just the basic tools like a ladder, rubber gloves and something to poke around – is cleaning up the gutters from junk, old leaves and everything that blocks the free flow of waste water. It will take you only a couple of hours, and it will make your home a much safer place.
5) Summer is the party season, and if you have a deck/patio in your backyard, chances are that your home would be the preferred place for gathering of your friends. That’s why you should treat the area well – pressure washing, installing new interesting lighting and why not a barbeque are just a number of the things that you can do in order to make your deck a more welcoming place.
